A Little Different

So this is defiantly something different for me. The wild patterns and the bright colors are not usually my style, but saying that I actually am pretty happy with the outcome. What is life if we don't step out of our element and try new things, we might never find out who we really are.

one step closer!

Well lets start with some great news! I'm engaged to the most amazing man and I could not be happier. So I have included a photo below of us:
This past week I also finished a lap quilt for Trev and I. Well I know we have so many quilts but I just do not know what to do with them but snuggle. I love this one because for the first time I used flannel for the back of an adult quilt. Adults need softness too.
                                                                     Back of Quilt
Now for Melissa's quilt......I am one step closer to finishing this 2 year project. Well it really should not have taken this long but at least it should be done for there 2 year wedding anniversary. I hope they agree it is worth the wait. I just love it and although it is not perfect and I ran into a lot of hiccups it is beautiful and full of love. The picture below is the top and is not complete I still have to put the border on.
                                                               Hope you love it Melis!

Little Quilts

So last week I was lucky enough to have the chance to work at the farmers market and meet a new quilter friend. Well she is pretty fun and we can sure talk about quilting for hours. So she gave me a new pattern to try, called.....the 9 patch. I just could not wait to get home and try it. So I did and I was able to make 2 quilts from it. So here they are....
                                                                  I love Peter Rabbit!

This one is for my niece Maddie. She has been patiently waiting for this for 10 months. Wow I sure do get sidetracked. But I hope she loves it.

This is almost the same but it does not have the border, the back is blue fleece and the binding is brown, so maybe for a little boy
What a good sport Trevor is, he is always getting called to duty....aka "Quilt Holder". This is a simple blanket. Both sides are really soft and I thought it could be used for either a changing mat of a little blanket for a small child.

This is the first Quilt that I have ever made that Trevor has said that he REALLY likes it and that it is his favorite. Wow I was surprised for those of you who know Trevor, this means a lot to me. So I am keeping this for when we have a little one. It is nursery rhyme twall. But I will make Trevor a similar quilt more manly.

This weekend was also very exciting for a couple other reasons. My mother in law let me raid her material stash and let me have anything I wanted. Did she know what she was offering. Wow it felt like Christmas for me, I was in heaven. And with All the cool materials I found I am going to make her a quilt. She is a quilter too but for those of you that think that we only want the quilts that we made you are wrong.... a quilt from someone else is just as special. Also I made myself/Trevor a fall lap quilt for out living room, I just have to put on the binding and then I will post a picture. And I helped my mother in law finish a quilt that she had been working on for a loooooong time and needed that extra push.

And looking back at this post someone has baby on there mind:)

New Material

So here is a look of some new material I purchased this weekend. I have so many ideas for these material and I just can not wait to get started. I will keep you posted with my creations.

This is defiantly one of my favorites(the one above). I think I might save it and maybe one day make baby bedding from it!

And yes I realize it is mostly baby and children material but........it was on sale and I could not resist stocking up.

Busy Busy

Well it has already been a week and a very productive week for me! I finished two quilt tops and I also got to buy a whole bunch of material.

This is what the back is going to look like. Well a part of it. It is actually done but too big for me to take a photo with just me and Trev here. Yup we have out grown our little apartment. But this will also mark the first time that I have ever done something with my backing, making my quilt reversible.

So this little project started like this on a sunday morning and......

........ended like this. Well I would have to say that I love it! This is a perfect fall lap quilt. Will I ever have to many quilts? Probably not.

Baby Blankets

Well we had a great weekend and the weather was beautiful. I gave myself a "quick project", well what I thought would be a quick project. We were heading over to meet our cousins new baby girl and I though I would make some cute baby blankets from a book called "Last Minute Patchwork Quilted Gifts". They turned out really nice and I will defiantly be making more. They are made with 100%flannel and so so soft and cuddly.
We also got to pick some apples when we were at Trev's Aunts house this weekend. They are so lucky to have a couple apple trees in there back yard full of delicious apples. So I am thinking I am going to make some apple crumbles and apple pie! mmmm
Today I am going to work on a new little project Melissa gave me. Good thing for Melissa she sure keeps my schedule busy!

It's done!

Alright So I have finished Melissa's lap quilt. And I just love it. It is so cozy and the colors are warm and remind me of fall. I know it will have a good home with Melissa, Jason and Colin. So here is a picture!

I also started working on another quilt. My mother in-law came over this week to hang out with me and start a new quilt. We bought the material awhile ago and decided to finally start it. I used the portobello precuts from Moda. At first I was not sure about this material but now I love it. It is very french with the blues, reds and creams. I also bought some twall material awhile and I think it is going to be perfect for this quilt. I think I might just finally get a quilt for my bedroom. Her are some pictures of what it looks like.

Simple blocks made with a Jelly Roll and a charm pack. Total blocks made is 52.

I also thought it would be nice to post one of the one I made for my mom. This is her lap quilt that we started together when I was visiting her.

Well I hope everyone has a great weekend!

weekend

Well the weekend is over and I did not get any quilting done. I find that since I am no longer working that I spend the weekends with Trevor and the weekdays quilting.

So what did we do this weekend......... Well we had a great weekend. Friday night we stayed in ordered Pizza watched movies and made popcorn, a very relaxing evening after such a hard week at work. lol. Then on saturday we went to Trev's work to make a gate for our little house guest. It seems that Rocky was sick and he threw up on our carpet and stained it. Eww. So we thought it best to contain him to the tile area, which he did not like. Then we went for a small hike to Light house park. This place is beautiful it is a small hike to a cliff then you can climb done this cliff and sit on a rock by the water which overlooks all of Vancouver and some of the Islands. Then today we went for another hike up to Dam Mountain. We have done this hike many times in the winter with our snowshoes but this was the first time for a summer hike. We were really happy to have the chance to do this as we have tried all summer.

I wish I had some photos but we forgot our camera yesterday and the battery was dead today.

Well Melissa my goal is to finish your quilt tomorrow and ship it out to you on tuesday. Wish me luck.

Starting Out

Well I am finally starting my first Blog. I have been talking about it for a while as well as following many other blogs which have inspired me to start my own. I find other blogs to be both inspirational and motivational, in saying that I hope mine will be too. I am also starting this blog to keep in touch with my friends and family that are far away.

My first project that is going to be recorded on my blog is my sister Melissa's lap quilt. I started this quilt with her about 3 weeks ago when I was visiting her. It is almost complete I am just working on the actual quilting part. It is a 45 degree angle grid and I hope she likes the end result.
